My Story…

The earliest I remember writing songs was…

when I was 8 years old. I wrote some pretty silly stuff about a lion in a drawer and a singing goose.

When I was approximately 11 years old

I got saved and my life changed…

As a young girl I was having some family conflicts and I was so miserable until I turned to the Lord and realized my need for Him. The tears of sadness turned to tears of joy as I acknowledged God and the sin in my life. I gave Him my heart and life. I realized He was my creator and only He could fill my life with true worth and joy.

It was then that I began to take an interest in the Bible and apply it to my life.

My Grandma was one of the greatest influences in my life. When I told her what happened to me, she had tears in her eyes and said “I have been praying for this for so long.”

She had been taking me to Sunday School since I was quite little and she had been praying for me to be saved.

I wish she had written down the day I was saved. I will never know the exact date.

All I DO KNOW

is that the Lord did

something special in my heart and life that day and I am forever eternally grateful.

“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”
— John 3:36

I was around 9 years old when I took more interest in singing. My parents set me up with singing lessons from a man from church. Shortly afterwards I started singing solos during the service.

Somewhere between ages 12-14 my parents bought me a cheap guitar in hopes that I would take an interest in playing.

It came with a beginner book and I began to study it. The first chords I learned were C and G. When I got to the F chord I had real trouble having to hold down two strings together plus another 2 strings. I got frustrated and quit for awhile until it dawned on me that I needed to ask God to help me. He did and pretty soon I had learned all the basic chords.

For my 15th birthday my parents bought me a very nice Ventura guitar complete with God’s “Dove of Peace” on it. (pictured below) I started writing songs with my new guitar and throughout my teen years and beyond I used my guitar to sing for the Lord at Church, Youth Group, Weddings, School Plays, Friends and Family get-togethers. That was also when I started writing Scripture Songs.

The guitar my parents gave to me for my 15th birthday in 1975. It is the same guitar I use today.

Note: Later on after recording “God Is Our Refuge and Strength” I realized that I had swapped a couple of words in the KJV Bible. It should have been sung “Therefore will NOT we fear…” Instead of “Therefore will we not fear…”

So how did KJV Scripture Tunes begin?

While I had written many songs over the years for my children and husband, it had been a long time since I had written any Scripture songs.

In 2011 I was asked to be involved in the Special Needs Ministry at my church. Part of the program was to have a lengthy song time (which the children just loved) I started teaching a few scripture songs I had learned over the years. As we began to teach different themes in the Bible with certain verses, there was no tune for many of them that I knew of. I started looking on YouTube for Kjv scripture songs that I might learn and teach them.

To my amazement, they were very few and far between… “How can that be?” I wondered. There are sooooo many people that post videos on YouTube from all over the world…

Why are there not tons of KJV Scripture Songs out there?

In the 80’s & 90’s, when I homeschooled my children, we bought a music program to teach them to memorize the continents and countries. Someone had put them all to music and it was very easy for the kids to memorize.

Years later I thought, “Wow, someone needs to write tunes for all these great Bible verses to help not only kids memorize the Bible, but also adults.”

So I started putting a tune to the verses I wanted to teach in our class.

Whenever I write a Tune to a verse, I always put music notes by it, the day it was written and “My Tune.” That way I can remember if it was one I wrote. If someone else wrote it, I just put music notes by it.

After writing about 33 Scripture songs, God began to nudge me to put them on YouTube.

“Who Me?… I don’t think so Lord…they don’t sound perfect… and my voice is rusty after not being in choir or singing “Special Music” in church for so many years…and people will be critical…what if they ask me spiritual questions that I’m not sure I can answer??…blah, blah, blah…”

I mentioned the idea to a friend and she said, “Yes!! you should!!” I began to think about it more. I had no idea how to record and post a video on YouTube.

So I started researching “how to…” on Google and YouTube.

I took notes, prayed a lot and finally took a leap of faith

and did what I believed God wanted me to do.

In October of 2019 I recorded my first “KJV Scripture Tune” video and put it on YouTube.

I didn’t plan for this to be a ministry, but because I’ve had so many people tell me how they have been so encouraged, I plan to continue until the Lord tells me otherwise.

Who am I?… a nobody… I don’t want to be “somebody” in the eyes of the world. I’m just so humbled and thankful that God chose me to be “somebody” in His eyes, and that He equipped me for His purposes.

I count it a great privilege to serve Him through singing and writing.

So that’s “My Story”…. (In a nutshell)

May God bless you and your family as you hide His precious Word in your heart…
